Meet Breanna, she’s 7….almost 8.

She loves to create beautiful things. I save all my fabric scraps and she confiscates them. I mean I even save shirt sleeves that are cut off. One day she came out of a creating fog with this outfit.

a square piece of fleece that she cut 2 armholes in and a cut off shirt sleeve that she put on the doll as a tube dress. Seriously!?! Ok, I know I’m a proud mama but this just amazed me! Just the kind of thing I love, making something out of nothing! Here is another one of her favorite things to do. Take a cut off shirt sleeve, cut 2 holes for arms and you’ve got a doll dress.

now get out your scraps, you know you have a stack of clothing that needs to go to Goodwill. Get them out, give that little girl some scissors and be amazed at what she can do!

Oh and by the way, in relation to the title of this blog post, go check out all the doll hair accessories she’s selling for those AG dolls or any doll. Excited is too calm of a word to explain her excitement over getting “orders”. ;) Shoot I might even order some myself! Get one for dolly and one for mamma! ;)

We ran over to Poppy’s monday night to pick some green beans. Of course all thoughts of helping pick flew out the window when B3 saw Poppy’s little dozer. He dreams big when he sits on these big toys….

gotta love dirty little feet…

My silly big boy…

eating cooked green beans and beans fresh from the garden….love it!

Happy Summer!!

Blackberry Pickin

It’s a summer tradition….whether we actually do anything with them besides pick and eat them is another story but we do get out each year and look for that hidden and protected fruit. I say protected because it is surrounded by millions of thorns many of which embedded themselves in our skin and came home with us. Along with the poison ivy on Bree’s leg. All in all it was a fun adventure. Nice cool breeze blowing, fruit in our mouths and a few in the bucket while we took a leisurely stroll down a dusty, gravel road. Rest assured these blackberries are in the freezer waiting for enough to turn into jam. Yum! Summertime fun!

Knit Tee Skirt {Tutorial}

Posted on July 15, 2011

Ok, let me be honest here and tell you that my little delicate angel is a monster on clothes. It could be that she is a go getter and pays no attention to her surroundings or it could be that she is somewhat clumsy. Whatever the reason, she is worse on clothes than my two boys put together. They could paint and not get a spot on their clothes, she walks thru the kitchen and comes out with a stain. So with that in mind you can imagine that I have no desire to buy new clothes for her to play in nor spend a lot of time making her clothes so I did a little brainstorming on affordable cheap play clothes, specifically skirts. She loves knit but it’s so expensive and such a pain to sew so I went to the thrift shop and bought a stack of t-shirts for 2/$1 and 4/$1. Yeah! Below is a tutorial on how to make a simple little knit skirt with you only having to sew ONE seam!

Stack of shirts:

I used a rotary cutter to cut it off under the sleeves but you can use scissors. Just measure your child from the waist to whatever length you want. Be sure to include enough for the elastic casing.

using your elastic as a guide for how wide a casing to make, turn over and sew down leaving a small opening to thread the elastic thru…(yeah my thread doesn’t match)

using a safety pin, thread elastic thru (measure your child’s waist first to see how long of a piece of elastic to cut, add 1-2″ for sewing the elastic together) and sew ends together then sew opening shut.

TADA! Your skirt!…..
